Some illustrations showing the advantage of rolling at high AOA.

The motion essentially merges a roll with a turn. You have a 25-30 degree head start in nose direction change compared with rolling along the aircraft's axis.

speaking of this actually, I notice the J-20 usually perform "loaded" rolls as opposed to clean ones, and sometimes when it's climbing too which led to its “落叶升” i.e. "rising leaf" maneuver. Is it doing this on purpose, or does the airframe just naturally tend to do loaded rolls? Now that I think about it I actually don't even recall the J-20 ever performing a clean roll.

It performs loaded maneuvers because it can, because that’s how much control authority the airframe has. You rarely get a chance to do unloaded maneuvers in combat.

I never claimed that Russia is better than China and will be better than China due to higher intelligence, I also did not claim China will never surpass Russia. I do also think all Russian weapons programs that will require high capital investments will struggle for the foreseeable future. What I am saying is that talking about whose engine technology is superior based on open source information is a fools errand, and isn't worth arguing about at all. Let us just be joyous about the potential service entry of the WS-15. No need for ridiculous chest beating comparisons about how China is beating all the legacy engine manufacturers. I've simply grown tired of all the rhetoric.
Dude you are on a Chinese defence forum. What do you expect? Of course there will be fanboys and ultranotionalist who often let their emotions have the best of them and make grandiose claims over every project. Just like you see the same in amzrican military forums, British forums, Indian forums, Turkish forums, Pakistani forums, Korean forums etc etc. Its normal, so I dont understand why you saif you have grown tired of seeing such things. Lol. To expect the opposite is asking abit too much. All Humans have similar traits they share in some ways. No country or race is special..so expect less and you will never be dissapointed. Lol

No, he is correct.

The fact that it is not unexpected that there would be chest thumping on any military forum for any nation's given military, does not mean such actions are welcome or desirable.
We are here to participate in constructive and critical discussion, not to act as a venue for emotional release. People should go elsewhere if that is their motivation.

Apparently, the first production J-20A with WS-15 has taken its first flight today.

May or may not be from today:

Of course, no explicit confirmation as always. It's just a rumour after all but I thought I might as well just post it for archival purposes given multiple credible guys (Orca also made a vaguepost about it) have said something.
