The landing gear is extended in that picture, so it is either on approach for landing or taking off (I feel like the former).

I wouldn't read anything into canard positioning in that picture because of that.

That is a good point, i did not notice the landing gears being extended at all!

I have no idea whether this is an actual photo or just a PS-ed work, but apparently someone has spotted at least one J-20 flying in beast mode configuration (or with the empty missile racks/launch rails in beast mode configuration).

Further verification is required.

Considering we haven't gotten any clearer pictures of this, and I suspect we won't be any time soon, we are going to not definitively be able to confirm this photo is real in the foreseeable future.
