Pretty sure it's a redesigned radome, a slightly changed dsi hump, ws-15 engines, a extended hump behind the cockpit and perhaps a upgraded irst eots sensor? not too sure about that last one.

There already had been at least one radar upgrade between 2017 and 2020.

Now that so many YY-20 have been produced we see an exponential increase in refueling training within PLAAF. That said, the J-20 is designed to operate within First Island Chain with no escort/refueler support. Having access to refueler is still a big plus since it can allow for longer aerial loitering time.

In the meantime, now that most of the pieces required to formulate the PLAAF into a true "strategic-type air force" (战略型空军) has fallen into place, the final piece of the puzzle would be the H-20.

Implementing such huge equipment changes in such a trivial, casual manner is enormously underappreciated in PLA/defence community. Like, look at how many challenges the F-35's facing between different blocks, and look at Chengdu here giving Lockmart a run for their money. Granted, this is an apples/oranges situation but this effort still deserves more recognition IMO.

And tbh further radar upgrades/changes are likely to occur -- chances are J-20A should have improved PTMS compared to J-20, so if J-20 itself can have upgraded radar, then we should see more capacity for greater upgrades with J-20A.

Is there any kind of conformation that the WS-15 is now in production and service. We know over at the Y-20 that the WS-20 is now in service.

Why is China keeping things like this a secret. Why can't they just come out and say that the WS-20 and the WS-15 are now in production and service.

you have missed the exclusive news about WS-15 entered in LRIP stage .. means small scale production ..

last year in March, AECC have officially confirmed about WS-15 engine production..

How many years have you been on SDF now lol.

We have no right to expect anything from the PLA, and should be grateful for every crumb and pixel they are generous enough to bestow and grace us with.


We should appreciate that we even know what WS-20 and WS-15 are and that we even have names for them.
