On some rumors boards, people use a ratings scale from 1-3. You should post whether you think it's reliable, unreliable, or official confirmation.

This is a 1/3 for me, WS-15 in 2020 would be nice, but we'd need further substantiation.

Earliest that WS-15 will enter production is around 2025. We’ve yet to see it fly on a test platform.
Doesn't mean it hasn't been test flown. If I'm not mistaken, I believe @Bltizo has intimated that the WS-15 has been tested on a Flanker.

Edit: Yep, he did
The most up to date rumors suggest the

have been fitted aboard a fighter aircraft for testing; however the aircraft is not the J-20 and is likely to be a J-11B or other Flanker aircraft instead.

I suggested it had been installed on a Flanker for testing, but I didn't suggest it has been tested yet.

(I.e. we have yet to receive rumours or evidence suggesting it has been test flown yet. For all we know it might have done so, but we don't know.)

I mean, if it's installed, how long is it going to sit there? They're not going "all right, boys, we've got everything in place. Let's put a tarp on it and come back in six months."

There are usually a series of ground tests involved that eventually lead to taxi runs then a full flight test series to see how the engine reacts in the air. This is Real Aviation Engineering not Kerbal Space Program. If a test goes wrong there is no revert to launch.

Certainly, but right now we don't have the rumours to say "WS-15 has been test flown".

As I said, for all we know it might have already been test flown, but we haven't had rumours to "confirm" that it has happened, so we can only wait.

Therefore, at present it is prudent and most correct to say that it's been rumoured to have been installed for testing, but we have no information suggesting it's been test flown yet.

How enlightening. Perhaps you can enlighten me further, how long does it take in Real Aviation Engineering™ to do those tests and drive the plane around a runway? Weeks? Months? Years?

My point was you don’t just build it fuel it and have a pilot jump in the cockpit for a flight.

J20 took a full 3 Months to go from Taxi tests to first flight. And there was a period of time between roll out of the first prototype and first taxi.
So Years is not unheard of. Even for just an Engine testing. Military aircraft and major components are expected to perform in a extreme number of environmental conditions and situations and have to be certified to those.
And as Stated this is a Rumor and rumors need not be true.

@TerraN_EmpirE @ZeEa5KPul

There's no need to be snide to one another.

Terran Empire was correct in pointing out that there is time taken for a process of tests between fitting a new engine and making the first flight with the new engine.

However it should also have been obvious that ZeEak's post was correct in pointing out that we don't know the exact timespan or timetable of when the engine may have first been fitted to its test airframe meaning we can't confirm if a flight currently has happened or not yet.

Let's keep things civil without needless jabs.
