So lets get back to the J-20? the first question is how were those J-11's/J-10s able to get a LOCK on those girls, where they running the Luneberg Lense? or is there a "chink" in their armor? lots of loose ends here......

Not sure how the J-11B locked on (if it did at all) but the J-10C may have used the IRST and PL-10. It may very well be a gun-kill since this was a very close encounter.

I rather doubt the US Military will cooperate with this little scenario as you have wisely ascertained,,, but we are also rather far afield here, the fact that China is simulating an F-22 two ship attacking Chinese forces?? well, that ain't to likely either, LOL

It sounds like they were may have been vectored in by AEWC and then combat only occurred WVR where IR and IMIR guided missiles would've been at play where radar cuing or even HMD cuing would've presented a few opportunities for the missiles to lock on.

We already know from other anecdotes that the J-10B and J-16 can probably see the J-20 with their radars if they’re close enough, perhaps in the 30-50 km range.
At which point it's in the same window as the IRST. Both systems still have limitations of where they can see them to. If it's nose on fine but off and blind. The AEW asset was needed to see at range to vector the fighters on target. Like a game of Hot and cold.
However to do that the AWACS makes its self a target. The Brute signal strength means any anti radiation missile has a nice strong target to home in on.

Though, I just remembered that in the exercises pertaining to those comments the J-20s supposedly had Lunberg lenses on. I wonder if that was also the case here...

The lenses would be a major giveaway for the fighters and AEW.

Yet at the same time if it were a RL freedom of navigation demonstration by F22s skimming over Chinese claimed air space as a show of force then they would have lenses.
If it was a combat mission or intercept by the Raptors they would be clean.

I feel like that would defeat the purpose of J-20s acting as orange force F-22s in this case.
