Also, I think it's not that the Russians do not want a deep interceptor platform like the Chinese, but the PAK-FA (Frontal Aviation Weapons System) isn't it. Their interceptor is the MiG-31 which is supposed to be replaced in the future with the MiG-41.

Also notice that the Russians recently cancelled their PAK-DA subsonic flying wing bomber project in favor of the supersonic Tu-160M2. Compare this with the Chinese approach on the H-20 or the US with the B-21 Raider. They went into a completely different direction and are seeking an asymmetric response to the US. Russia has a larger country to defend and a lot of its cities are far from each other. The possible targets are also further away. Russia wants to keep their capability to strike the continental US mainland with their bombers. They also want to be able to redeploy their assets quickly from one place to another. This way they can quickly pivot their air force from Europe to Asia and make do with a smaller fleet.

I think a lot of people miss what the deal is about the Su-57. ....

Can we please leave out all F-22 vs. Su-57 discussions here? There is a dedicated PAK-FA thread and usually these discussions led to nowhere ...

my apology to everyone, i referred back 10 or more pages but didn't see those posts....
Yep, don't worry about it Bub, and I hope you won't let this discourage you... pictures of this aircraft are actually quite rare these days, and heck, I NEVER look back through most of these posts, so I actually kind of like seeing them again, as long as someone brings a few comments or observations

Thanks a lot since indeed admitting a mistake or even saying "I'm sorry" is a virtue one barely finds in forums nowadays ... maybe still here at the SDF more often than in other forums, but anyway still a rare virtue.

Anyway I think it is not too much to expect to look a bit back a few posts if anything way already posted and even more NOT TO Use the low quality images with a Sina-stamp on it ... that's what I and a few other find annoying, indeed most annoying.

Best,
Deino

Sadly SDF's influence and size seem to be shrinking, it really does make me sad, when people resort to criticism and personal attacks against those who are trying to find a place to be heard. A new member made a post introducing himself and our friend Jura had to issue a friendly warning that "anything you say or do will be "used against you"....

Each of us have "area's of interest" and sometimes a unique aspect on events or equipment, honestly, I believe we need to dispense with the criticism. While I agree we need to maintain our high standard, many times people are on equipment, phones, laptops, or have a poor internet connection that makes viewing SDF difficult..

I'm a pilot, but I've read some stuff here that makes me wonder, I've been "corrected" by people who obviously have very little understanding of aerodynamics or aircraft construction?

In the school house there are bright kids, and then there are the "rest of us", hopefully we will have some better pictures and information after Zuhai, maybe without the Sina stamp, and I hope you gain some valuable insight into the J-20 program, now that would be worth reading.

Since you know where the base is located, pay a visit after Zhuhai is over. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. ;)
I know you’re just being chipper, but in all seriousness this probably won’t work as a casual drop by. Cangzhou is really *really* far from Zhuhai (actually the opposite end of the country), and is probably quite a bit more sparse. It’s also not easy for a foreigner to navigate, and I can personally attest to the fact that foreigners would stand out there. Local law enforcement may be a bit figity about spotting them because it’s something they’re not used to. Deino might get asked what business he has in the city and if he doesn’t have a good cover they might try to politely pressure him to leave. The base also sits well outside the main infrastructure of the city. The area around it is still rural. You’d probably need a local to find you a good place to do plane spotting, and I’m not sure that actually exists because there probably aren’t highrises around the base and land there is quite flat. There’s also the problem of security, which might be quite a bit more stringent given that it’s a military base and not an aerospace company airstrip, and that it’s probably easier to enforce because the base is isolated from the everyday view of passing bystanders. I think frankly trying to do planespotting at Cangzhou’s airbase isn’t something that you can just do on a whim. You’d have to do some intricate planning to make an attempt worthwhile.
