This is purely a point on vanity, but I was really hoping the WS-10 wouldn’t slot in as awkwardly in the J-20’s nacelle as the AL-31. It looks even more awkward

They actually look TVC awkward (and, not of the F-22 variety, either).

Looks good on my end as well - if anything I'm still hoping they can eventually lose the ventral strakes on an aesthetical basis.

It does look good Bub, maybe they're thinking about the fuel dumps or???

but those Vents aren't going anywhere anytime soon,,, those vents are Dr. Songs insurance policy against "yaw instability" with the reduced surface area of those all flying verts, he had to go to ventral fins to maintain yaw stability at higher angles of attack and post stall.. now if they wanted to go to OVT, such as the SU-57, that would also work, as the J-20 likely has more than sufficient yaw stability until very near and possibly to the point of aerodynamic departure, but post stall, the J-20 needs those ventral fins to assure recovery.

The Eng has been quite clear that OVT is a real long shot, in fact until the SU-35, the PLA has never operated any aircraft with OVT, so to physically incorporate it onto the J-20 is no real issue, but to integrate it with the FCS and the WS-15 will be the real challenge??

so, I was rather surprised by the PLA purchase of the SU-35??? I imagine the Eng would admit the same???,,, so where this puts OVT on J-20 is very iffy, as far as I've heard, there have been no OVT nozzles on the WS-15??? anyone wants to post a picture of something different?? I'd love to see it???

I was skeptical of TVC claims as well until the TVC nozzle appeared on a modified J-10B test demonstrator. I believe that they are test the TVC nozzle for the J-20.
