Seems that the change is quite minimal in 2017 (from 2016). Just canopy and the side missile bay door?

I correct it.
117S TVC engine. In fact, China only want the TVC technology. Remember China does not have TVC technology at all. Spend 2 billion dollars, get the TVC tech plus 24 of Russia's best fighters (far superior to India's Su-30MKI). This is not a bad deal.
1. China will know just how good Su-30MKI is and how to deal with them and crush them in real combat, because Su-35 is superior in every way.
2. Gets TVC tech and then later put them on WS-10 and WS-15, or even WS-13 engines. This way. Pretty much all of Chinese fighters will have enhanced maneuverability. Remember, the TVC tech on Su-35 is top notch, it is 3D TVC even better than F-22's 2D TVC.

There was a picture from years back of Jiang Zemin playing around with a joystick to control a Chinese TVC nozzle.
By all accounts, the PLAAF were not that impressed with Russian TVC, having turned it down when it was offered with the AL31FM3s the Russians supplied for their J10B fighters.
As far as I am aware, they consider the benefits offered by available TVC tech to not be worth the reduced thrust and increased maintenance costs that comes with TVC.
