Supersonic does not mean super cruise.
Unlikely super cruise with old Russian engine.
Yes, however the way the pilot phrases it makes it seem like the aircraft's kinematic performance in the supersonic regime is a normal or routine thing for the aircraft to do, which is rather suspicious if the aircraft must use afterburner to achieve supersonic speeds.
I also thought supercruise is unlikely using the current engines, however I think considering J-20's configuration not only as a stealth aircraft with internal weapon bays to reduce drag, but also an airframe that seems longer and with more of a "long delta" configuration, I would hazard to say that supercruising may not be out of the question.
Obviously any such performance would be well below what could be achieved with the intended WS-15 engines, but if the aircraft is using the more powerful Al-31FM2 engines (145 kN compared to F119's 156 kN), I wouldn't put it past J-20 being able to achieve a lower end mach 1 supercruise even when not using WS-15s.
Of course this is all speculation and I think daniel707 is jumping the gun because the interview with the pilot definitely does not "confirm" J-20 can supercruise as it is, but the interview definitely raises the possibility I think
