To admit, since the final word on what type of engine the current J-20As are using is not spoken yet (even if I'm quite convinced with my theory on an uprated, custom-bade version of the AL-31FN) it depends on such issues like thrust, reliability and maybe most of all what's the anticipated schedule for the WS-15.
Let's say, the current AL-31FNX would deliver a thrust of about 130-140kN and the estimated introduction of the WS-15 will be delayed by say several years, it probably makes sense if the WS-10B will be reliable enough and will deliver a comparable or higher thrust).
Otherwise I don't think that yet another intermediate engine-change between AL-31FNX to WS-10B to WS-15 does not amkes any sense.
Just my 2 Cents.

I agree, and I loved your summation of the FC-31 and SU-35 in Air Combat monthly, very nice, and I really liked that FC-31 V2 picture! It is a shame that you haven't been invited to Chengdu, I would love to see a full factory work-up of the J-20,,,, your articles just seem to "wrap it all up" in a nice readable package, and you sure catch some details that I miss, again, very well done. Accurate, Honest, and to the Point! good show Deino!
oh, and I would love to carry your bags and your camera!
