Undoubetely this matter of AAM weapons load is very important coz especialy only 50 % of AAM reach her target an average... and the F-22 sure get 8 whose 6 LR.

For her rivals :
T-50 seems really now 4 LR + 2 SR different weapons bays in tandem
J-20 more difficult ! same arrangement as F-22 but as Russians Chinese missiles are less small, compact especialy more wide ( for host inside the main problem is the diameter ) then seems just for 6 PL-10 thinking right now 4.
For PL-12 as point Totoro ... we going again more for 4.
And right now J-20 don' t have a gun obsolete say some but can be useful especialy vs groud targets also less dangerous for troops and cheaper.

In this case F-22 get an advantage.

NB : F-35 : 4 LR internaly with Block 5 for about 2023/24 about 6

Yes, the F-22 is very "tightly" packaged, and has quite a long and successful developmental history. The J-20 as far as we know is an A2A package, CAS is not necessarily in the equation as "driving" the design, like the F-22, the J-20 will probably be very capable, but the design criteria focus on A2A.

I would also point out that J-20 is more of a "defensive" package, where as the F-22 is more "offensive" in nature, why the Russians are so "offended" when they see one?? LOL!

At this stage, we are still in flight test, and to be honest the J-20 has been designed to be more about "stealth" and less about carrying a bunch of "odd" weapons just to be classified "multi-role"? Stealth aircraft of necessity have smaller bays than many of us would like, and it may be true the J-20 bays are "deeper".

In this case the airframe has been designed to have a very low RCS. That continues to drive this test program, the result is a smaller weapons bay, likely removable hard points that depart the aircraft after weapons deployment.

I would be more concerned at this stage about the actual performance of the aircraft, and how it will function operationally, the side mounted weapons bays mirror the F-22, and the J-20s main weapons bay is very similar in size, so it will no doubt be functionally adequate, without taking away space from critical aircraft systems.

The weapons bay is "right sized" to the J-20 airframe, and not vica-versa, everything has to function as a whole, and then it has to "perform" up to a very high level, the engineers know what they are doing!
Match with her large range, more fuel...

Employment matter successor of F-15, as a Mig-31 or Su-27P ( S for frontal aviation ) of Soviet PVO build only or almost as pure fighter.

It's amazing how we haven't gotten any new photos or information in over two weeks!

Indeed - however IMO it is sad - esp. after that nearly 6 months hiatus before ... then the few images showing the low-viz. markings and now again nothing.
