I think all we can say is that this bird doesn't have a serial painted on the fuselage in the usual sizes and places we normally expect.

For all we know, it might be tucked away somewhere and/or in very small fonts. Only a high-resolution photo covering the right angles might reveal it to the plane spotters.

We'll see.

That's true, and I want to apologize for being a little obtuse, you fellows are my true friends and brothers, I hope we can keep it that way on a larger scale. I do believe the old doctrine of maintaining at least some "parity" works to everybody's advantage.

Nope! in the aviation world, serials are required for certification, even in the military, now there were two MC-130Es that we know of? that had their serials "scrubbed". There were 14 Rivet Yards, 12 with serials, and 2 clean, those birds were prolly operated by the extreme covert operators, I have a picture of my Dad flying from the right seat of a Chain, about 200 ft off the deck, wearing Khaki's and a white tee, with smoking a Winston, with a seriously NASTY look on his face. We lost two Chain's in SEA and those clean birds were then reserialed to cover up those losses...

So that bird has a serial, and it will remain with it for life, may not be painted on, but the airframe does have a serial, and each engine has a serial as well.
OT
I remember reading about a B-52 in the time of the war against Vietnam sporting a number that according to the article belonged to a B-52 of a very different version.

From France :) finaly Western dudes are among the best informed.

July 3, 2016, a J-20 flew for just over an hour above the aerodrome Factory 132 in Chengdu, making the delight of spotters and enthusiasts who continue to monitor this program new generation of fighter aircraft for the army of the Chinese air.

It could have been a flight like any other, but this device in gray paint and without registration, is actually either the 3rd or 4th series aircraft. We can clearly identify the roundel of the Air Force under the wing and the engine compartment. And unlike the rosettes that are usually red in color, they are gray-white color and "low visibility".

According spotters Chengdu, the first two production aircraft, registered # 2101 and # 2102, are still in yellow paint factory. In recent days were mainly marked by a large number of technicians Factory and 132 uniformed personnel of the air force who work around two devices, plus two copies remaining in the shed, including the who flew that day.

Also according to these fans, ground staff "dismantle and go back" some equipment of two yellow planes, so they could see for the first time the electronic scanning radar one among them

Experience tells us that the army of the Chinese air is getting ready to receive their first J-20, and the delivery ceremony could take place shortly before the end of the year. The first copies will probably go to pilot processing center in Cangzhou.

A simple tracking allows you to see the program 718, the name of Project J-20, seems to move at a normal pace in comparison with Western programs. The analysis shows that some elements of the production rate increases from the second prototype # 2012 and the new aircraft come in sets of 4 to 6.

In this case not delivered to front line unit before 2017/18.

I don' t think it is possible around Canggzhou close Beijing is an area too urbanized for test weapons and have large range for do it, USAF do to Nellis with Desert and Russian to Aktoubinsk a big area between Volgograd and Caspian Sea.

Yin Zhuo claims that J-20 is about to enter service in small numbers.

I would not be surprised ... August 1st would be a perfect day for such a milestone and given the IMO not really understandable hiatus on any news I was expecting such a surprising event - similar to the Y-20-service introduction - since some time ...

So Deino, that little blurb says 2102 still in the yellow, should be two yellow birds, and the bird that flew this weekend first of a new LRIP batch, which he states are 4-6 birds??? thought on 2102 sir ?? that's what I believe we were fully expecting, but I haven't seen any confirmation of a 2102 first flight or even 2102 on the ground before this??

No ... that's indeed what puzzles me the most: I can't think that during the last 6 months - since 2101's maiden flight - completely nothing came out !
