does anyone have a list of various f35 prototypes and their first flight dates? i tried googleing that data but had no luck finding a source listing them all. if we really do see further prototypes next year, it might signal CAC went the f35 route and was told to rush the testing process and perhaps even start early production phase before development of the plane is finished. we all know how that turned out for f35. but, if plaaf is willing to pay more for such development process, while it may not get earlier entry into service than it wiuld have gotten with regular tesdting and development process - when the plane does go into service there may be, just as with f35, already several regiments worth of planes entering service.

What got the F-35 in trouble was the three versions.

three versions are beside the point. i am talking about development and prototyping while production is ongoing approach. it may speed up entry into service a bit, but only if everything goes smoothly. which it really rarely does. most plane development programmes get delayed by few months or a few years. had f35 had no delays it would have entered service five years after flight of first proper prototype. by that logic, some low rate preproduction for j20 may start in 2016 and entry into service by 2019, possibly late 2018.

Right, but if I recall correctly the thing holding everyone up was the B variant. The A variant was actually, for the most part, doing okay with that rolling developing and production approach.

The upper parts of the vertical fins are painted different. Does it mean that vertical fin is constructed by at least two pieces, not in one piece?

That seems to be the case since 2011. Maybe the have radar absorbing sections lining around the edge of the tail, canards, and also the ventral fins?

Thanks for the info Delft, so there are about 8 prototypes and probably about 2 for static testing?

Not sure how You come to the conclusion of 8 !! It is well known that there are 6 by now: 2001, 2002, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2015 !

It is said to be the original 2002 now renumbered to 2004. But anyway I don't know how he comes to 8 !??

like I said 2001, 2002 (= now 2004), 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2015 = only 6 !
