The answer is Yes.

Problematic. 1) It's ambiguous whether the question could be interpreted to say it is currently using its own domestic engine or whether it will use its own domestic engine. 2) Where did the Russian source get it from. 3) The claim doesn't fit with the fact pattern.

I think it's pretty well-known and well-recognised that J20 will be equipped with WS15 in the future....

While that is likely true, I personally believe the inlet/nozzle redesign indicates that the current engines will power the LRIP birds, possibly the early full production birds as well, so we shall see. There are no indications that even early testing of the WS-15 is scheduled for the J-20???

I'm just not sure that we can take that statement to mean the J-20 is currently equipped with the ws-15, because, you know, it probably isn't.

I'm pretty sure it isn't and I'm pretty sure that won't be the case until quite some time later.

So basically I think he didn't reveal much useful information.

I wonder if these are actual official photographs. This one taken it seems moments after shows the landing gear going up. How many shots of the J-20 taking off have we seen except from the rear? The photographer must've been close up and ready.

It's been a while since I kept myself updated with J-20... I saw a photo a few pages back with a J-20 numbered 2004. Has it been confirmed that this is a real photo and not a photoshop? I don't believe I have ever seen a J-20 2004 photo before. Thanks guys!

And it looks like the J-20 project have made a lot of progress, the new paint job looks a bit darker and more "cloudy" than the F-22's.

I think 2004 is PS'ed.

Maybe because the Chinese sky is a bit darker and more "cloudy" because of the pollution? So the camouflage has to match that?

The gear is referred to as being "in transit" in the flying community Mace, and a lot can be learned about an aircraft and its flying qualities and internal structure by these photos of an aircraft with the gear in transit. Lots of the big recip WW II fighters would see the intransit gear take on an asymmetric configuration as the gear un-locked and began to fold into the wells as the doors etc would make their attempt to get out of the way of that gear. The J-20 has a very complex gear door solution, in order to hide that gear, but it appears to function very well. That by the way is the reason that first flights are almost always a gear down affair?????
