Hmm...this pic reminded me of an earlier photo Deino posted on January 30th. The picket fence in the back reminded me of it.

So, I went and found that pic:

Now I have to wonder. Is this another pic of the events that took place back then? Just from another angle and at a different stage...because they are exercising the same elements?

Or, have they now returned to the same place and are resuming testing and this is a new photo?

I am inclined to believe that this is a new photo, but you never know with wall climbers. This is a disturbing paucity of information on the context of new photographs, presumably to make it harder for the authority to track them down.

To be honest -- I'm just stoked to have some new-ish pics of this beautiful new 2011-bird - she's a stunner!

BTW

Is anyone aware of any recent (& publicly available) air-to-air combat modelling on how the J-20 would fare against the likes of the F-22, F-35 and Rafale / Eurofighter types?

By all accounts, even with sub-optimal engines, the airframe configuration looks to strike an excellent balance between frontal stealth, range, speed and maneuverability... what I'm looking for is anything empirical that might confirm (or otherwise) this assumption.

I can tell you, but then I have to kill you :D.

On a serious note, air-to-air combat modelling with prototype aircraft that we know nothing about is usually complete B.S. that favors one nation over another. We don't do that on sinodefence. Also, direct "vs" threads are explicitly banned on the forum.

paucity, great word siege, its such a shame that Dr. Song Wencong has seen the clamps put on his beloved J-20, and what a beautiful interesting airplane, I was so excited to see the PLAAF/Chengdu first flight this aircraft during Sec Gates visit, the PLAAF is missing the boat by not putting their best foot forward. I wouldn't want anyone to risk theirs, or their families freedoms, or even their job or security clearance, and the wall-climbers have my greatest respect and admiration, and who can blame them for being so proud of this airplane, and wanting to "show the world"???

I'm sure China is sensitive to the "experts" and their criticism, even the F-22 had a few dissapointments, and I'm sure the J-20 will have a few along its path as well, but what a missed opportunity to tell a story of Chinese "exceptionalism", and this airplane illustrates that so well, as China takes a step out of the shadows, into the real world of the big league, this is a very sophisticated airplane, and I would love to see someone with a deep appreciation for the engineering, and true affection for this airplane, to tell her story. I would just love to read about her and see some great photos in Air Combat monthly, or even the Air Force Magazine.

not to mention this great forum, but that's what keeps us hangin on here, I reckon.

Well as siege points out, that is against the forum rules, but I will guaraontee, that there are a lot of somebody's who have modeled, wind tunneled, war-gamed a very full work-up on every possible adversary for the J-20, on both sides of the pond, with every conceivable weapon, and that F-22 pilots are flying a J-20 style profile, as they Red-Flag and Top-Gun against one another, its also likely the T-50 has had a similar "going over". I for one would love to see the J-20 with the blue smoke going, as they go from about -10 AOA, to 70+ AOA, and there is no doubt that that is being done as we speak, would be so interesting to be "in" on those observations??? At some point, we will know more, but that is likely several years down the road, as the real "experts" are MUM so far....
