Looks like it really was a new HUD. By78 I eat my words.

The slope of the intake roof is VERY interesting because of a discussion I had the Amiga500 at keypub a long while back about generating body lift at high AoA. Originally he pointed out that both the f-22 and PAK-FA had better ways of generating body lift than the J-20 because of how that curved fuselage sheds and blends vortices. Looks like they did implemented some changes to the aerodynamics in the end. Really disappointed that the tails aren't smaller though.

Looking at the picture more closely, it seems like it's been photoshopped. Notice the slight difference in colour between the nosecone and the rest of the fuselage.

?

Are you kidding?

Definitely the new prototype looks better from the front. The intake top slope looke like F-35 but you may also argue it looks like the top of the J-31. I wonder how much of the flight tests would have to be redo due to the changes.

Also unfortunately the cockpit glass brace is probably required if they decide to go witht the detonation ejection route. I think F-22 throws the whole canopy away when SHTF but maybe J-20 designers think this way is better. But I still hope it is just a temporary thing for more complex flight testing where a quick, tried ejection mechanism may be required if something goes wrong.

If the exhaust is jagged like the F-35, is that sufficient compensate the rear aspect of stealth for all-aspect?
Also if it sounds different, is it possible it's the WS-15?
I also wonder how much changes were made for the rear fuselage.

The DSI intakes now have slightly different shapes than before. More towards the F35 shape. Also, cockpit cover is also now F35 style with the inner ring and those lines which I don't know what's the use.

The paint is really different also. Silverish white colour now.

Why did they add an inner frame to the canopy? Why didn't they remove the ventral fins? Can anybody explain what advantages to these bring to the aircraft?

They need the innerframe because they also added detonation cord on top of the canopy. So when need to eject the top blows off and the rest of the canopy will not be strong enough. Previously they probably went with the F-22's way of throwing the whole canopy away before the pilot ejects.

My guess is maybe this is for low altitude flight test where this ejection method may be quicker and safer to pilot.
