The Liaoning is gradually working up towards its air wing.

I believe that the prototypes will probably still be used now and then for various tests.

At the same time, it is clear that production J-15s are now appearing on the Liaoning.

They are using these to train pilots and slowly, carefully work up to having a full squadron of active J-15s with trained pilots for the carrier.

This year we may see them with as many as six to eight aircraft aboard. Pictures of six to eight J-15s operating off of the Liaoning would be really nice to see.

To date, the most we have seen are four.

I don't think it is the case ..... China decided to put domestic engine (WS-10A/B) on J-11B and J-15 because WS-10A/B is ready and good enough and also to support and promote domestic engine development. Russia would be more than happy to sell AL-31 variants to anything China wanted ... actually its the other way around. Perhaps it would be the case 15 years ago, definitely not now.

In the schedule as annouced some years ago PLAN get a CAW for 2015/2020.

There's always more than what meets the eye with Chinese progress

The J15 naval regiment probably stood up end of last year or start of this year and the activity on the carrier could just be what they have released now

Thos imagines are scans from a magazine so somewhere they have published these, if they are the published ones how do the unpublished ones compare

I would think that China right now has 6-8 maybe even 10 J15 on carrier operations doing training and qualifying pilots of they can reach say 10 x J15 by end of this year by end of next year a full strength 24 x J15 regiment could be seen on the Liaoning

Nights operations, full weapons load, simultaneous launching and recovery added to the complexity of a carrier opps are all things they are working on

Once they have reached that level we could start to see deployments

Remember China likes to step forward with its best shoes, they won't be doing things until they know 100% they can do it this is why we have to wait so long for certain news
