The unit that he served in now uses J15Ts

But that's the point ... J-8II no. 81194 - even if often 81192 is shown (?) - was assigned to the 9th Naval Air Division, 25th AR and at least by what I know (or think to know) this unit was first reformed as the 9th Naval Air Brigade and then transferred to the PLAAF as the 909th Brigade which now is most likely the 129th Air Brigade.

Therefore the point again: Was the famous 9th NAD/NAB reformed with J-15T?

Hopefully not just an April Fool's joke!? Allegedly "Wang Wei’s comrades transitioned to carrier capable J-15T."

Does this mean the former 9th Naval Air Division/9th Naval Air Brigade has been reformed and gained J-15T?

As far as I can recall, the PLA isn't really known in the PLA watching circle to make April Fool jokes, especially for the PLA Navy with regard to the 2001 Hainan Island Incident.

It appears that the 27th Regiment from the original 9th Naval Air Division became the main body of the 9th Naval Air Brigade, while the 25th Regiment's aircraft were handed over to the Naval Aeronautical University. The 9th Naval Air Brigade has since been transferred to the Air Force and reorganized as the 129th Brigade. As for the 25th Regiment (Wang Wei’s former unit), it is now flying J-15Ts and is based at Lingshui.

That fits nicely… But we don’t know its current Designation?

这很符合要求……但我们不知道它目前的正式名称是什么?
In today’s report from the Southern Theater Command, the unit was identified as the "海天雄鹰" and has reportedly been in service for several years. The coverage featured the aircraft carrier Liaoning. Since serving on a carrier was always Wang Wei’s dying wish, I personally speculate that the unit has already been integrated into the Liaoning’s carrier air wing.

I don't think Chinese would joke on news about Wang Wei on April 1st.

More importantly, why would a unit transitioning to a different aircraft type be an April Fools joke (or any other kind of joke) to begin with?

It isn't particularly funny or surprising, it's just a unit conversion...
