A further enquiry on the topic of AAMs, has there been any hints that the J-15T at least (since it's the latest variant) might be able to carry the PL-17 LRAAM?

Technically there's no reason to think why it couldn't from a structural perspective, and as the most recent production domestic Flanker type (probably no less modern than the latest batch J-16s) there should be no reason why it wouldn't be compatible from an avionics pov.

How high of a priority fielding such a capability would be for the PLAN aboard their carriers is another matter.

Those arguments are persuasive, but I don't think those features are exactly obvious especially given the original pictures of 1523 are not that great quality to begin with -- the stowed front undercarriage argument being not too convincing given it is somewhat cast in shadow in that picture, while the lights on the tail argument is somewhat viable but they are also rather small details that are not yet beyond reproach (e.g.: consideration of a new production J-15DH with that tail light configuration).

Of course, I'm always happy to take the word from credible individuals of the Chinese language side.
But it seems in terms of "evidence" we don't have something clearly definitive, like a past picture of prototype sn 1523 with its landing gear extended showing the nose gear, which is why I asked Deino why he said those 1523 was a J-15DT (was there other imagery elsewhere for example).

Now I just need a J-15T with WS-10s carrying PL-17s /jk :p
Speaking of which, we might get the WS-10H (upgraded to ver. 2) after all, potentially to WS-10D/B-3 standard (I hope they use the same nozzles):

This might explain the quite generous amount of time it's taking, due to multiple redesigns to bring it up to current WS-10 standards.
