I don't think there's anything that we can say until we get additional pictures, which might require us to wait a long time or to wait no time at all.

The level of effects applied on the picture makes it basically impossible to judge it for what it is worth, but it does seem to have certain expected features like catapult bar on the nosegear, wingtip pylons that aren't intended to be compatible with PL-8, and a radome which lacks a pitot tube. But whether these features are reflective of a real, undoctored photo, we can't say.

And as I wrote on twitter, one thing we do need to consider is whether Oneninety (or indeed, other more well known users on weibo) would post deliberately faked/obfuscated pictures on their accounts that are deliberately misleading, assuming they care about their reputations.

So yes, not much to say, no reaction at this stage, and there's no reasonable way for us to determine the authenticity of the image with what we have to work with.

In fact I feared such an answer but I had some hope anyone with a better understanding on how photoshop works has more insight if there is something to conclude or even exclude ... even more since it looks like a huge clear image of a KJ-600 underneath.

No reply, no reaction? ... no-one with an idea if real or faked again? :(
This may be obvious, but I just want to point out that according to the picture, the J-15 variant in question has the same wingtip pylon design as J-16 (as opposed to the stepped design of J-11B and in-service J-15 which is made to be compatible to PL-8), which imo is a good sign of this aircraft getting some major avionics and weapons upgrade

Yes, but I thought that was already obvious ... the only question I had: Is this image legit?

I use PS for basic editing of raster images for work which is to say I'm not a PS wizard by any means.

I could easily fake an image of J-15 with whatever modifications you want me to add. But I could not guarantee that it would look authentic because raster edition has its limitations and if the modified image is made using elements from other image and the two images have different resolution, colors, perspective etc they have to be further modified for the splicing to be less noticeable. If you know what to look for you will find it and good quality manipulated images take a lot of work and require good input material.

What you see in this image is a filter effect, most likely several compounded effects from under "filter>stylize" menu to get this kind of outline. I think whoever made this image hid visible flaws in the image under a filter.

My advice is never waste time on anything that isn't a proper image without blurs or other effects. If someone wants you to know that something is real they will show you a proper image (or at least put a lot of work in faking one). Anything else is just the raster equivalent of fake news.

This is just perplexing to the point where I wonder how the heck PLAN themselves keep track of planes. Also, do you have any idea what the 7 digit H numbers mean?QQ20211121-223351@2x.png
Here we have 0320 as H1102171... 0318 is H110116sth... but 0303 has a number that's larger starting with 12, while also having the position of H number and serial number reversed.

In fact I don't know ... I thought for a brief moment, the individual number could be found in this longer number too or again, but as it seems this is not the case. As such I'm still trying to list each individual known bort-number and connect it to a construction number ... but what functioned quite well up to the final batch 02 J-15 is a pure mess for all Batch 03 aircraft. o_O
