Interesting comparison but then again the F14 Tomcat was a formidable fighter

it was used to carry the mighty AWACS killer Aim-54 Phoenix missile which was only ever exported to the Shah of Iran

The problem with F-14 was it was severely under powered. It wasn't until F-14D in the late 80s did it receive adequate engines.

Thay are around the same size, with the Flankers being smaller only in wingspan when the Tomcat's have their wing fully extended. F-14's were certainly heavier though.
The Kuznetsov class design wasn't really meant to carry Flankers, though. As far as I am aware, its intended air wing was mostly Yak-41/Yak-141's.

Kiev was meant to carry Yak. Kuznetsov was built for MiG-29K and Su-27K.

Did you not hear about the maiden flight of the J-35 that is going to occur next year?

J-35 complements J-15 in the air to air role. J-15 is big and carries a sweet truck of bomb load and is more suitable for striking missions.

what types of missiles are those? The ones mounted below the nacelles seems placed too low.
Looks like a variant of the YJ-83 AshM. No way it is realistic to mount below the nacelles. I have never seen Flankers mount missiles there. The plane can't even land if the missiles are not fired.

I’m not necessarily saying it could work on a ski-jump carrier, but Russians do mount AshM-sized missiles below the nacelles of Flankers.

What missile on which flanker variant? I need some help to jog my memory if I've ever seen anything like that situation before.
