I'm no engineer, so please don't me up on this. But as a layman. I do like the J15. But looking at the landing gear, and considering the punishment they endured. The F14s look much more substantial.

It look as though the J15 movement sideways is secured but movement front to back is not as substantial as those on the F14.

Just a layman's eyeball analysis for what it's worth.

That's precisely why I'm asking the question about J-15/Su-33 landing gear. Sure, their lineage comes from Russian rough and tumble doctrine, but F-14 is specifically designed to take the Carrier landing punishment and in regards to Carrier landing experience the US is miles above other countries, mainly because of how long they have operated CVs. The knowledge gained from that experience should be pretty significant.

Also, the Su-57 landing gear has transitioned to halfway between Su-35 and F-14, though closer to F-14. However, I suspect it's because of the stealth requirement rather than the integrity of the landing gear.

The first prototype of Su-27, T-10-1, used a similar design:

The chief designer of Su-27, Mikhail Simonov, had the landing gear reworked: main struts were provided with "slant" main pivot, which made it possible to retract the gear into the wing's center section, thus requiring no folding struts (as seen on F-14 and Su-57) to be installed. In terms of aerodynamics, this reduced the lifting body's cross-section in the area of the landing gear wells.
J-15/Su-33 inherited the landing gear design from Su-27/J-11 but made it much stronger.

what are the meaning of the colors ? Is it like in the US where different colors mean different roles ?
