My favorite picture of the J-15s and the Liaoning remains the following to this day.

Pretty much says it all (or at least the most I have seen in one picture to date):

Well, thta may be possible...but I highly doubt that they will have a navalized 5th gen fighter rweady int time...unless they re-work the J-20, which I do not see happening, or take the other aircraft which they have certainly showed no real interest in to date.

I believe a CATOBAR J-15 is still in the works...but time will tell.

Yep, and the J-20 would take a lot of rework, and I just don't think that's in the cards?? I might be surprised, but the FC-31 is far closer to the typical carrier configuration...

There are a bunch of confirmed variants like the vanilla J-15, J-15S two-seater, and CATOBAR-capable J-15T(?), as well as a bunch of unconfirmed/rumoured variants like J-15D (EW) and J-15B.

Here's four different variants:

J-15 Flying Prototype


J-15A Production variant (Supposedly two batches produced)


J-15S Two Seater version with tail hook (Supposed to develop into a EW aircraft for the PLAN and carriers)


J-15T Carrier Catapult/CATOBAR version (may be a part of the J-15B - including AESA radar - which will bve part of batch 3 J-15B)

Let’s dig deeper

J15B batch 03

2 batches of 24 x J15A built for CV-16, you can see the batch number close on the wing edges of J15

CV-17 will still use J15A ? Why which Flanker has stood still in development? Hardly any, so batch 3 for CV-17 will be more advanced hence the B designation

J15D EW

Which carrier strike group flys without a EW aircraft ? In today’s warfare you fly without electronic jamming you are dead in the water , operating under jamming is routine flying for advanced airforces we are not flying Mig 15

PLAN is so short sighted ? No so for every naval squadron of J15A fighters they will add 2-4 x EW aircraft goes with out saying

Are you saying that J15T confirmed from photos and satellite on land based test facility are fake ? It exists and is testing
