J-15 carrier-borne fighter thread

Although J15B is expected to be at par if not more advance than J16 but the expectation of J35 entering service seemed to over-shadow J15B's service induction. Thus the impression of lack of enthusiasm from members here.

I am happy that the in-service J15B are joining Liaoning and Shandong because when Fujian enters service there will be at least a few dozens of J15B ready for her, together with aircraft carrier landing certified pilots.

With latest AESA radar and sensors, and latest WVR and BVR air to air missiles, especially those ultra long range missiles, J15B will be a beast in its own league. Working together with J35, they will be navy equivalent to PLAAF J20 + J16 combination.

Just to add-on: Taking-off isn't as challenging and demanding as landing for carrier aviation operations (despite the obvious differences between STO and CATO).

One is basically getting launching into the air (with the help of the angle of attack (for STO) or higher launch speed (for CATO)), the other is basically a controlled crash-landing onto a small strip of space with the ever-present risk of swimming with the fishes if the aircraft didn't manage to stop in time during BAR.

Plus, at this point in time, it is very much an added benefit for carrier-based fighter pilots of the PLAN to familiarize with both STOBAR and CATOBAR operations to enable cross-deck operations between the STOBAR twins and the future CATOBAR fleet.

Speaking strictly of the STOBAR twins, I believe what most of us are waiting for from now on would be the presence of J-35s onboard Liaoning (and Shandong in the future after her MLU).
