So 9+ B models plus around 90 basic and S models that Huitong suggests in his gallery of known airframes, plus probaby a few more J-15D models suggests there are now roughly a 100 J-15 of all variants in service, perhaps a few more than a 100.

I think that forms very much a floor estimate.

I personally suspect there are already over 100 basic and S model J-15s, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some 20ish B airframes by now if they're willing to fly 9 close together in a single formation. Then add a small and unknown number of D variants, my own total production estimate across all variants is ~140

But who's counting, I suppose

The newer batches of the 15Bs may, finally, be rid of the AL-31s.

Looks to me like CV-17 Shandong in that same image has 6x J-15Bs on flight deck -- i.e.: that single picture may have up to 15x or J-15Bs depicted.

(I do wonder if it's a possibility that one or two of the "J-15Bs" on CV-17's flight deck might actually be J-15Ds, specifically the two right next to the island, but who knows)

I think posting the pictures and having a level headed discussion about them is a good thing, and reflects the maturity of the community.

If it can be maintained in future it would be very desirable and commendable, IMO.

Because ideally, these pics are at least 10 years too late. It should've been with at least a CVN and J-35's by now.

If it can be maintained in future it would be very desirable and commendable, IMO.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting or expecting we break out into fanboy delirium… just a couple-of-words statement or single-word remark capturing thoughts/emotions in writing… and then proceeding with the thoughtful, mature, considered and technically-detailed conversation I would expect nothing less of from this community (and myself).

Anyway, OT - had only wanted to clarify, lest someone confuse me for an immature fanboy fantasist.
