We already planned to purchase 42 Rafale and 24 F-15. Purchasing J-10C will definitely jeopardize the latter so I'm not sure if they'll go ahead with it.
We will see. Indonesia did abandon Su-35 because of CAATSA. But if Daddy Xi can pull a South Korea and sweeten the deal with a Great Wall Menglong assembly plant then maybe there is a better chance…

Indonesia will perform like India with J10c then. With no integration coordination will be a mess. Better to just stick with western system and embrace the whole ecology

For most countries the platform they acquire will not matter much because they will not engage in combat against peer opponents. What is needed is the “prestige” of the aircraft and it is something based purely on vibes. Why can Belenciaga sell literal trash bags for the cost of an IPhone? Perception.

Not likely for Indonesia or Malaysia to buy Chinese defence equipment. They have territorial disputes with China after all. Prestige is one thing. There’s also public sentiments , political and other factors involved. While Indonesian AF did pretty ok now, RMAFs fleet is dated and in need of modernisation badly. That few FA50 not gonna cut it.

Actually Indonesia and Malaysia did buy some naval weapons, including patrol ships and missiles, from China. Though there is no Chinese made military aircraft sales to these 2 countries other than CH-4 UAV to Indonesia.

I think this is becoming somewhat semantic.
It's all indeed secondary to the lack of stealth and level of electronic outfit, which can be installed anywhere.

But, overall international arms market still considers two distinctive 4.5 gen "hard" features - reduced frontal rcs and better supersonic agility (supercruise, but not only) in wider range of altitudes.

Both noticeably affect BVR.
