Can J-10A and B be upgraded to J-10C standard? I think potentially having 300 more J-10C variants would significantly boost our airforce. Is it already being done? Is there a project like this? Can it really be physically done or are the differences too much?

I doubt the J-10A can. Very different structures and systems. I would imagine a J-10B could though, very similar, designed for AESA and cooling, etc.

Unlikely for J-10A to be able to be upgraded to J-10C standard, perhaps J-10B could. There were news about an air-cooled AESA radar being trialed on J-10A. While it probably wouldn't be the best use of resources to upgrade the entire J-10A fleet now, it would be good to have that capability in the case that the need to arises in the future.

J-10A are still up to date against most of China neighbors. Sure that upgrades could be interesting but at the rate of production China can achive, building replacements would be as fast without removing active fighters. Don't know if many J-10C will be build in 2024 to maintain the production line in check.

I always thought that PLAAF would retire their fighter jets after 20 years in service, but after seeing that they upgraded J11A I think J10A would be similarly upgraded to extend their service lives. Though we should not be expecting these upgraded J10A to be deployed on first line of air defense.

Also re-delegate these upgraded old jet fighters to ground attack roles is a big possibility.

J-11A was not upgraded right? It was J-11B.

J-10As are probably still too young to be given "mid life upgrade". Maybe they will get an upgrade in a few years once they are old enough.

The most of the J-10As were produced in the 2000s, with the last unit rolling off the production line in the early-2010s (if not 2011). If the J-10As are slated to have a service life of ~40 years, now (i.e. the 2020-decade) is actually the best time for them to receive mid-life upgrades.

Yes, J11A were upgraded with photo evidence. The one noticeable upgrade equipment was missile warning sensor. Other upgrades are not noticiable with naked eyes.

J11B s were upgraded as well, with light Grayish white radome.

Is J-10C still produced? I thought we stopped producing them and now focusing solely on J-16 and J-20.
