@Deino Orca and friends are mocking the reconnaissance pod on Weibo.

I noted this too, but at least a bit further down some notice that I just quoted Huitong ... and as long as they have no better explanation, let them have some fun.

But - on the annoying side - why all these nasty comments towards Hitler? I do not name all Chinese Mao and so surely not all Germans are a Hitler.

And by the way ... A friend of mine suggest a similar role like the K-8V or IFSTA testbed!?

Anyway they may be implying that it's something to do with AI:
There was a guy under Orca's thread that says Deino should pay attention to this video from Yankee.

The Hitler thing is actually an in game

I think.

Hm, such a small pod, if it ends up being a real thing, has its pros and cons.

It can't match the versatility of a larger recon pod, nor can it offer the same capability. For example surveying as wide swath of land at once.
On the other hand, its shape and size suggests it's usable even during supersonic flight. So it's probably usable from high altitudes (over 15 km) and possibly at speeds of over Mach 1.5.

It could be that the name of the game is numbers. How to have as many quick reaction/high speed/high altitude recon assets as possible, for quick tactical recon missions, requested on a short notice or against fairly dangerous areas.

In such environments, having a recon asset being a high flying supersonic asset might be an advantage over the more numerous slow low to medium class UAVs. High class drones such as the WZ-7 might also offer high altitude coupled with a lot of safety (greater stand off range due to more potent recon equipment) but those might be fairly low in numbers overall. Plus they might not always be able to react as quickly, even if available.

These kind of platforms like the J10 might also be ok for target damage assessment. Flying alongside a strike force which uses medium range stand off weapons. In theory, it a 100 km or so recon range might be achieved, with enough resolution to see if a particular building was struck with a weapon.

Still, it seems quite beneficial that the pod is detachable and usable on regular J10Cs. Not being an integral part of a specialized J10 recon variant.

They are just shit posting. There is not as big of a social stigma against Hitler in China as it is in the West just like there isn’t as big of a stigma against Imperial Japan here. Still, it is really rude.

Nonsense, some of them are also calling you "小黄人" (the minion man). /s

The Hitler thing is just a rhyme/pun from the transliteration of your name.

-> 鲁普雷希特 (Lǔ pǔ léi xī tè; Ruprecht) -> 雷普希特勒 (Léipǔ xītèlēi; R*pe Hitler).

Notice how the 普雷 (pǔ léi) part of Rupprecht is the same as reversed 雷普 (léipǔ) (again a transliterated borrow word from English) and 希特 (xī tè) is the same as the first two characters for 希特勒 (xītèlēi; Hitler).

They're not really calling you Hitler or directing it at you, please don't take those people seriously.

They're just internet meme regurgitators because the only exposure they have to the word "Rupprecht" is from the ship Prinz Rupprecht in video games.

I did a search on Baidu for 雷普希特勒 and basically all the results was

They just think you look like this in real life:

I don't think j-10 has enough time at mach=1.5 h=15 to bother.
oh this kind of recon asset would definitely not be there to offer meaningful persistence. it'd be to check out a subject one time, quickly, on a short notice. while possibly being somewhat more survivable than some of the other recon assets. and possibly being available in decent numbers.

Maybe it will be quite useful for target damages assessment ? If one of the strike plane have it, they don't need to bring other assets for verifications. A bit like the Lantirn upgrades in the US.

Doesn't look that big but taking the central fuel tank cut range quite a bit.
