Hey fellows does anyone have a clear cut explanation of the differences between the early batch J-10 and J-10a. I know early J-10 could not use PL-12 and some of them had a different forward landing gear doors but anything else?

There are 3 batches of upgrades between J-10 and J-10A:
Upgrade 1: integration with PL-12, laser-guided bomb and HMS.
Upgrade 2: enhanced ECM and new communication antenna.
Upgrade 3: upgraded radar, integration with targeting pod and new datalink.

What is the payload of that dorsal spine ?? Quite strange that we see that type only on the acrobatic team. Beside fuel, not a lot of payload is relevant if they use that version only for aerobatic display. And doing a variant only for show is even stranger.

Interestingly it seems that this paticular jet has all the combat subsystems still in it: MAWS, datalink antennas, IFF, the works. Is this (using basically combat-spec jets painted with a special livery) the norm for Ba Yi?
