J-10 Thread IV

If WS-10B can only produce 29000lb of thrust, then it's worse than the WS-10A without restricted thrust.
The only thing I can tell from the picture is "WS-10 engine could produce thrust in excess of 29000lb."
I kinda agree, I believe 29k lb thrust is a deliberately low figure given as a possibility by using the word 'can'. It doesn't mean that that is its max thrust.

I wouldn't take the quote too seriously.

In the same quote, they say:

"The J-10C can produce 29,000 lb thrust, which is 10,000 lbs excess thrust than the JF-17 produces, and as much power as two and a half Mirages put together. A single Mirage produces 14,000 lb thrust"

Two and a half x 14,000 lbs = 35,000 lbs
And 35,000 lbs is obviously lower than 29,000lbs.

So I don't think they are being too careful with the real numbers lol

could be just a figure of speach, based on what blitzo's quote, the current figure of WS-10B on multiple chinese reporting is about 144kn, roughly 32500 lbs, that is more close to 2.5 mirage

While everyone is obsessed with max thrust stats a lot of interesting info from the article went undiscussed:

1) The J-10C is easy to fly and handle but hard to master because sensors acquire an almost overwhelming amount of information that must be processed. Shades of the J-20!
2) First batch of J-10C pilots included F-16 pilots, who claim that the kick after engaging the afterburner is greater than that of the Falcon. This indicates satisfaction with engine performance in the thrust and responsiveness department.
3) Apparently the J-10C has voice recognition. They must have an English version ready? Chinese pilots do train using English so it isn’t that much of a stretch really.
4) Kudos for the Pakistanis pilots for mastering the plane in just six months. Amazing.

the pilots learned to utilize the most technologically advanced piece of equipment, their helmets. The pilot’s Heads-Up Display was directly projected on the visor rather than just at the front of the cockpit. This allowed pilots to easily view key data such as altitude, air speed, and direction and even select multiple targets and shoot.
Is this confirmation of HMD for J-10C?

Also @siegecrossbow, I think you might remember the guancha episode where they talked about how it's important for air forces that want to cooperate with China to get J-10C instead of JF-17 because this allows them to train and work with PLAAF. You really can't do that with JF-17. And I think this piece described in details how much work/cooperation is required when another Air Force picks J-10C. So, I think they are going to try pushing J-10 to customers harder than JF-17 going forward.

Export is the only thing that is going to keep the production line open. Maybe.
