How of then J-10 pilots practice with guided bombs? What I have seen it seems they are still relying heavily on unguided weapons what exposes plane to manpads and other light AA systems when they swoop towards the target.
For China’s threat environment, LGBs are of very limited use. Most of the targets the PLAAF might need to bomb in likely combat scenarios will be defended with advanced air defences, and any fighter will be shot down long before they are within range to drop LGBs.
That is why dedicated Chinese strikers like the JH7, Su30MKK and J16s all focus overwhelmingly on long range standoff munitions use.
PLAAF iron bomb training seems largely geared towards providing frontline troops with CAS support.
You don’t really need LGBs since most frontline troops won’t have laser designators, and would just be calling out grid references, so iron bombs would work just as well as LBGs for the vast majority of cases at a fraction of the cost.
Also, such roles will only be conducted once the airspace is secured, or at a minimum with massive SEAD and DEAD support, so range won’t really be an issue.
Also, the rapid development of UCAVs within China has made LGBs further less important, since UCAVs would now be able to hit most of the kinds of targets you might previously have needed LGBs for.
