That seems likely to have been the cause of there none development.
download.jpeg we know they were studied.
This wind tunnel model clearly shows CFT bulges.
We also know that some aircraft of western origin with similar characteristics delta canard are starting to get retrofits to mount them or already have them. the Typoon Tranche 3 last year emerged with a mounting bracket along the spine to fit them. Rafale flight tested such back in 01.

Although they obviously add weight CFT are designed not to be anywhere near as draggy as a drop tank well still increasing fuel load.

Those bulges aren't CFT. Those are there to represent compressed, slower air, which then influences other air passing around the plane in the windtunnel. That's why the front of the intake is also bulging, as most of the air is actually diverted around, when aircraft is at sufficient speed. This model with all its bulges likely represents a transonic/supersonic case of airflow.
