Don't think A's can be upgraded to B or C. Those air intakes are completely different and I'd imagine those are quite impossible to change. B's should be able to upgrade to C though.

And if @PiSigma's uncle's statements are anything to go by, air intake design relate to the structural strength of the airframe so it's not just a matter of slapping on DSI, it's practically rebuilding an entire aircraft and if CAC is going to spend that much effort, they might as well get an entire new J-10C.

Those closeups show the attention to detail on the surface is better than that on Su-35 and is equal to Su-57. Just for J-10b. The manufacturing guys have really done a great job catching up with western standards and growing out of soviet ones.

That small, round-nosed bomb, is it a cluster bomb? If so, are there any details about it available? Mass? Number/kind and size of bomblets? Doesn't look to be steerable in any way with that circular stabilizator so I'd guess it's not guided in any way either.

Last I heard, there are no plans to seriously upgrade the A series. Too much work/$$ than what they can get out of it. When the As came out, the industrial capacity/knowledge is very limited, so quite a bit of the engineering is limited by that. There wasn't much expansion potential put in. A critical criteria for A is for construction to use it as practice/ learning opportunity so they can build B and C etc. Where engineer make the air frame see its full potential and eventually be able to construct J20.

When J10A came out, J20 research had been going on for about a year or two, and they saw the industrial capability as a series hindrance for meeting J20 goals. Both from a worker skill and technology manufacturing point of view. It seems now most of these bottlenecks has been resolved.

Any word on the J-10D proposal, and whether if it's an active project or not?
