It is a matter of necessity since 4th generation fighters will be relegated to air-ground roles once the fifth gens are joining service enmass.
It will probably take another 20 years or more until Chinese air forces will feature next gen fighters (J20 and newer) as 50% of their inventory.
Air to ground missions and weapons we see for J10 are added for the threats of today and threats of 5 years into the future.
Also, a previous generation jet can be a decent interceptor against next gen fighters, defending the homeland.
It is offensive missions that yield most benefit for next gen fighter tech. Strike missions, fighter escort for strike missions, and possibly fighter patrol over distant, out of homeland, areas.
ARM variant of YJ91, for sure. And antishipping variant may not even exist. (Even though it'd actually be a VERY good fit for PLANAF, something between YJ83 and YJ12 in capabilities)
