US Navy allowed Top Gun producers to film actual Tomcats while they're flying training sorties. They even allowed them on board of a carrier.

I would not call it "NK tried to" ... it's more comparable to that similar unrealistic wish from my 10-year old son who wants a Porsche for his 11th birthday.
