Damn. This is sad. I'm sure some of us already knew her by her familiar face from the pictures that we've seen previously. My condolences to her family and may she rest in peace.Upsetting news for all, except for the honour-abru Janiz, of course.
August 1st Acrobatic Team suffered a fatality during training, losing aircraft 09. Both pilots ejected. The front seat pilot landed with injuries but the pilot in the rear seat collided with another aircraft in the formation and died on impact. The other aircraft made a successful emergency landing. The casualty was Yu Xu, the first female pilot of August 1st, and one of four female combat aircraft pilots in the PLAAF.
Wreckage of aircraft
RIP
Anyone who's even half familiar with aerobatics would know it's a matter of time, even when everything has done right - somebody would draw the short straw. Whether the pilot KIA is male or female is still equally a tragic lost on many levels, just think of how much national resources has been expended on raising one.Upsetting news for all, except for the honour-abru Janiz, of course.

That's because the admin over there have deleted several more toxic ones already.Other than the OP, the vast majority are sympathetic. There are always a few bad apples in every batch.
Her accomplishment will be the stepping stone for the next generation of Chinese female pilots who would don the PLAAF uniform and perform their duties.R. I. P Yu Xu. She will be remembered as a pioneer in Chinese Military Aviation.
The front-seater and the pilot of the aircraft Ms. Xu struck while ejecting must feel awful.
Yes rest in peace Ms Xu, she died having done what she love. Being the co-pilot seated at the rear she had most probably been instructing a rookie or coordinating the performance. It is a very sad day but the show must go on and learn from this accident. There are not many women who do this, even the red arrows has no female pilots and I for one has always ben proud of these girls
Sad news. But I think it's distasteful that some would try to exploit this tragedy to promote their own pet views.
There is not enough information available to say what happened, so any claims of engine failure is pure rumourmongering.
But if we apply a simple logic test, it would likely rule out an engine failure.
The pilot died after being struck by a wingman. That means the decision to eject was taken extremely suddenly, too suddenly for the formation to disperse, which would only have taken a few seconds.
It's hard to think of any engine related issues that would force the pilots to eject almost immediately after the problem.
Given the nature of the kinds of flying the display team does, and the fact a wingman was close enough to hit an ejecting pilot, it seems most likely that the accident was caused by a mid-air collusion between two jets.
