Bingo, Air Combat Maneuvering, and the J-10, and the J-11B, that looks like the Initial Break---you fly in formation, until lead calls "break now Jester", the idea is to gain separation and the to create an opportunity for the initial "merge", which is the scenario detailed for the initiation of air combat maneuvers between the two aircraft.
In the accident report for the F-22 Captain lost in Alaska, Capt Haney was ten miles ahead of his flight lead at the conclusion of their mission and lead called for Captain Haney to "form up", Captain Haney "broke high and right with a very high performance climbing right turn, zooming up to 50 to 60 thousand feet, that's when he got a master caution and had to shut down some of the life support systems in order not to let his "fire" get out of hand. Captain Haney was then distracted/unconscious and did not pull the ring for emergency O2, for whatever reason, and flew into the ground inverted at a very high rate of speed.
the very recent loss of an F-15 on a ferry flight for maintenance is somewhat reminiscent of Capt Haney's incident, Moose's F-15 may have been at twice the speed of sound?
Its been some time since I read Capt Haneys accident report, so I am a little foggy on the details, but suffice it to say, ACM is very real, and the danger may be greater or as great as actual combat?
