Here's an interesting picture featuring two very interesting models.
The translucent model on the right is a model for an early sketch of J10. There's actually a story behind that model. Back in the 80s when China decided to develop a new 3rd generation fighter, at first it was SAC which is said to have already been "internally assigned" to do the job even before the bid (that is, to introduce their idea and let a board of experts and government officials to decide on the final proposal based on perfomance, cost, etc). So although CAC was also invited, they were considered "inferior" and "secondary". But Song Wencong, I believe we all know him very well, didn't take it lightly. He prepared this model and brought it to the meeting, showed it under a visualiser, and the design is said to have "stunned" the board. He then went on to explain the various advantages of a canard layout, and assured the board that CAC is capable of developing this fighter due to pre-existing researches, wind tunnel data, and more importantly, design experience gained from the J9 programme.
This leads to the model on the left. It's a model of the J9. In fact we can see that number "0901" on it.
