1. blind its IR sensor, usually by means of a laser. The Russians supposedly have such a system undergoing test on the T-50. Flares don't work too well with imagine IR sensors.

Modern IR missiles use focal plane array seekers , matrix of IR sensors that could detect shape of the plane (see pic from AIM-9X FPA sensor ) . They cannot be deceived and lured away like older missiles , but still could be blinded by lasers or by longer burning and very bright flares .

Modern seekers of AIM9X do not target engines... They target specifically the cockpit area to stop the plane. An engine can handle some damage. It is pretty much impossible to fly further if the cockpit area gets minor hits (pilot, avionics, sensors, frontal body etc).

The next generation CM is indeed laser. I think it is matter of a few years.

Wasn't there the time when 2002 emerged and 2001 was about to leave for Yanliang, they were both on the tarmac? Then were a couple others similar to the shot above in the hangar yard. I don't know if those were declared PSed. The question is which ones are those. CAC is probably messing with everyone with the paint and numbers.

I'm surprised no one has commented on the pair of J20s in the background yet. First real pic I have seen of more than 1 J20 in one shot that I can remember of.

Didn't notice. Makes me wonder if that's 2001 and 2002 or if it confirms that there were two of each number.

We've actually had previous photos with two J-20s

However latenlazy raises an interesting point, and I can't help but agree that there are more J-20 prototypes than meets the eye.

A recent rumor stated that the "C" variant hasn't tested yet, so keep waiting.

Any idea from the rumour mill of what J-10C actually is, what modifications does it have compared to B ? Thanks.

Maybe J-20 2004 is really ...2004?:p
