8088 and Core i7 are both based on x86 architecture, and that doesnt mean anything, Core i7 is still 10^N more advanced and harder to develop comparing to 8088.
And its no hard to develop your own architecture, in most cases its just for compatiable reasons (see the fate of IA64) that most one prefer builting their CPU with existing and established architecture.
And intel get tons of Chinese american scientists as well, the founder of YF-23's chief scientist is a Chinese american and F-14's designer is a Chinese american as well, so can we say YF-23/F-14 is Chinese technology?
