I don't think it's too much to ask for journalists not to showcase false materials while reporting on something neutral, I mean come on, it was just some training sessions, plus J10 etc. were declassified ages ago, it's not like they couldn't grab some real footages from PLAAF. Such fabrication is outright disrespect to people who serve in PLAAF, not to mention the viewers' intelligence.

Talking about western media's dodgy acts, would the best retort against others' misdeeds be doing the right thing oneself?

Because it was a training session is why it makes it harmless. Like I mentioned before a conservative blog I read was angered that China would declare itself having the best air force in the world. Where does it say that? Oh because it's a American F-5 that's destroyed by a J-10. Nobody says it was an F-5 and in Top Gun it's the best Mig out there. It's not like they used the F-14 flying footage and said they were Chinese fighters. Yeah it shows how amateur it is but it doesn't do anything.

It just the work of some lazy producers and editors trying to cut corner (a common problem in China). But someone is trying t make a mountain out of a molehill.

Anyway I don't have much high regard for CCTV productions. Often I see those military documentaries that contain lots of borrowed and repeated footages.

I guess people that is thinking of the top gun issue should think about this first. Was any video from the army being released to the public use when it was shot in the last air to air combat. When was the last time China have thought in the air. Did China ever use real fighter planes to test their A2A missile. And one last thing is does showing a fighter shooting down a UAV display the image that the fighter plane are capable of modern warfare. Well to be honest, I think the internet have made a BIG FUSS about this, because people in China that goes on the internet and foreign Chinese nationals know that some of the small clips that are used in CCTV and other media outlet in China as filler to waste time. It is a poor choice as some have said, but I don't think it was intentional as misinformation.

I've seen a couple of those CCTV7 documentaries on youtube. They're are pretty cheesy and it's likely that they fake the storyline. They showcase the typical moralistic story, recruit joins army out of patriotism, recruit is having trouble during training, but with the help of comrades and a caring platoon leader, he gets over the difficulties and becomes a model soldier. Stuff like that.

This vid was made over 6 months ago. So, the maker did really 'miss' any opportunities (at that time nobody has ever seen J-20). And for people who live in China they would always use Shanghai for this sort of film, just like people in the west always choose NY over DC.
