Israel is the daddy in the region. Qatar should maybe gift a few more Boeing airplanes to Trump lol
and in return compromising their very concept of sovereignty ? and who will trust them anymore on negotiating or mediating anything really when they cannot protect the party doing negotiation.

I'm a little bit confused about the posts in this thread, because it seems some people accept that Qatar had deferred to US and Israeli pressure/forewarning that Israel would be conducting a strike against Hamas on their own territory, while some people seem to genuinely believe they expected Qatar to defend their own airspace against Israel (and thus by extension, the US).
In this case, if Qatari F-15s were in the air, wouldn't the most logical answer be that they would be ensuring their own airspace was safe for Israel to conduct strikes against their own nation's soil? For all we know, Qatari F-15s were escorting Israeli strike fighters to keep them safe while the Israeli jets dropped their bombs.
Putting it another way, it seems more likely to me that any role of Qatar's air force and air defenses would have been to maximize Israel's chances of a successful strike rather than try to defend against it or thwart it.

TBF, the al Thanis are in an impossible position: they need to manage the perceptions of domestic audiences — if not look good before the Arab and Muslim worlds at large — while simultaneously placate Qatar's principal security guarantor: Uncle Sam.
This inevitably translates to a laughable — if not outright surreal — combination of doing one thing while saying something else altogether.
