Speaking of the Kurds CNN reports they are within 20 miles of Raqqa can someone verify if possible it would be quite a defeat for Isis if Raqqa were to be captured I hope it's true

Nah, I can't see Turkey as becoming a military Junta like government in the form of Egypt, Thailand, and Myanmar anytime soon. That's why they are NATO because the government are stable enough to handle such a political situation.

You are aware that the Turkish Military forced out a popularly elected government in 1997?

Although 'Im skeptical of this report, it seems Erdogan may have had a drink of cold reality:

Information has come from Syrian sources that last night (24.11) the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces struck with massive attacks on the positions of militants (including Turkomans) in the region where the Russian Su-24 was brought down.

The source reported that most likely nothing remains of the militants who shot down the Russian MI-8 .

No detailed information has arrived yet.

Meanwhile, there has appeared information that the Turks are not putting their fighters in the air after the majority of them were lit up by Russian radar (the S-300 and, according to early reports, possibly the S-400). After the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, Turkey is afraid that their planes can be destroyed when approaching the border.

In this regard the Syrians reported that the Russia air-space forces can begin the full-scale destruction of camps in the border territory, and also annihilate the retreating militants and the fuel trucks which are moving towards Turkey.

Erdogan did not receive the hoped-for support from NATO. Erdogan has acknowledged that if the Russian plane even violated the border of Turkey, this was for only for 17 seconds, which means that the Turkish Air Force, on purely physical grounds, could not have reacted to it if the provocation was not prepared in advance. This figure of 17 seconds appears in NATO reports.

Members of NATO have been ambiguously treating Erdogan’s action. At present it is difficult to judge how the situation will develop. While it is obvious that Erdogan is attempting to back off, it is already too late, as Vladimir Putin gave to understand at a meeting with the king of Jordan.

Most likely Turkey did not expect such a severe reaction from Russia.

Ehh... that last sentence seems strange. What else would the Turks have expected from downing a Russian jet?

The Turks grounded their fancy F-16's? I did not expect that because Erdogan still looked very tough on tv I just saw a few hours ago. Vladimir Putin will so ''something'' that we can be sure. In the Chinese internet world the support for Russia is phenomenal.
Condolences to those 2 brave russian pilots.

Any word on whether the Russians have deployed more Flankers to Syria?

At a minimum, I would expect massive Russian air to ground operations in the Turkish boarder regions where the Su24 was downed, backed up by Flankers loaded for bear just itching to kill some F16s.

A no fly zone is pretty much effectively in place in the Turkish southern boarder regions.

Best case scenario, the Turks does what's best for them and keep their planes out of that region entirely. The Russians pound the living snot out of any and everything on the ground that looks remotely suspicious while the Syrian army rolls right up to the board and seal it tight with Russian air and/or ground support.

That, ironically could turn out to be a good thing, as it would totally shut down the terrorists' primary source or arms, supplies, reinforcements and revenue. Which would not have been possible without the Turks having massively stepped over the line.

I think its not just the Chinese who are on the side of the Russians, pretty much the entire world agrees that the Turks were way out of line.

The silence from NATO is deafening, and that gives me great hope that we can keep a lid on this and stop it from spiralling completely out of control.

My initial great fear was that NATO would close ranks around Turkey, which would have further enraged Russia and made Putin think his options were very limited. In which case he may well have been sourly tempted to go for overkill to make the point that NATO doesn't scare him.

With Turkey effectively being left out to dangle by the rest of NATO (probably with high level government officials from key NATO members like France explicitly telling the Russians so to keep them in the loop and avoid potential misunderstandings), Putin will feel that he has more time and options, so would be less inclined to go for extreme measures.

Although I don't condone their actions, to them they are just killing the people who are bombing them in which they had not provoked directly. The problem in the middle east is that both Western and Russia had protected ruthless dictators that had killed off moderate Islams making the region a hot spot for these radicals.
Assad needs to start negotiations with the rebels of a reform in government so to clear the way to clean up IS. Putin is certainly not helping the situation that is for sure.
These are Al Qaeda fighters sent in by Turkey to change the government of Syria by force in clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations. There can be no opportunity for a legitimate government to negotiate with the mercenaries of another country.

we all are observing on the net in comments section of various articles be it UK or ther Europian countries..people actually siding with Putin for taking on ISIS. The general public mood and thinking about this particular incident in all these countries is pro Russia.
