im quite ignorant about iran, why is it taking them so long to produce the nuclear bomb? north korea is also a pariah state and has nuclear weapons. india for gods sake was able to build a nuclear weapon. is political resolve not strong enough in iran to make sure they achieve this capability? or is it more pragmatic, that diverting energy into nuclear weapons in this day an age is a liability compared to pushing more novel doctrines like drone warfare?

Skill issues (getting their scientists killed).

There's indeed another possibility... Iran is conducting a cover-up & reversable operation, learning from NK.

Or they just do an underground nuclear test for Russian with a tactical nuke and say they have already the capability. After that they could do what they like without being bothered too much.

Not having it is clearly demanding to be harassed non-stop.

Lack of political will.
DPRK has and always had.

Pretty much this is it. Iran is arguably within weeks of making a small nuke bomb from the moment of decision (threshold state), but they don't want to cross this line and face consequences.

i don't understand that political equation. how can the consequences be worse? they're already getting fucked five ways to friday as they are, and multiple nations have shown that life is at least not any worse with the nuclear option than without. what are they afraid of?

It is possible that upper leadership is completely infiltrated by cucks at this point.

US can cripple their economy, and Ayatollahs aren't super popular in the first place. Iran already dropped massively in economic terms(and unlike DPRK, they had abd have a lot to lose).
If Iran will get nukes - Arab states from the other side of the gulf will as well, so benefit will also be spoiled.

All nice, but Assad was already effectively ousted by US sanctions (which made his regime unsolvable - things didn't collapse just through genius of Erdogan and Sharaa).

China and Russia(or entirety of BRICS) are unable or unwilling to prop economy of such countries, Iran by itself couldn't prop even Syria (they actually tried).

Furthermore, both China and Russia seriously oppose proliferation, it won't be a good moment to talk to either.

It's a difficult world.
