Dominant eye isn't the same as dominant hand. Most humans are near equal on both eyes, ~2 in 5 have no eye preference and 1 in 5 have slightly more dominance on the opposite eye to their dominant hand. People who are single eye preferential to degree where it would affect tasks significantly are an absolute minority, maybe 5%(?).

Guessing that soldier's eye dominance based on his dominant hand has a coin flip's chance of being correct, that's (final year) high school biology.

i think it is one of those things that is counter intuitive at first, but once you play around you eventually figure it out.
