Must be those extra territorial police stations againThere is going to be side effects of MSM using these as example of "PLA brutally put down protesters".

Getting rid of retired / surplus gear through distributing them outside of the fighting force (no matter towards civilian or foreign state / agency) seriously damages reputation in general. There is going to be side effects of MSM using these as example of "PLA brutally put down protesters".
Never thought it from this perspective. Now it makes more sense why the government is particularly strict on the export of new Type 19 and 21 patterned stuff, which is a shame as I really wanted to build myself a full, modern PLA kit.Getting rid of retired / surplus gear through distributing them outside of the fighting force (no matter towards civilian or foreign state / agency) seriously damages reputation in general.
One reason why the Type-07 camo / uniform became so "infamous" towards the end of its service was precisely due to its uncontrolled influx into the civilian market, where it was sort of "repurposed" into the no.1 work clothes of construction workers and security guards (groups who where known to constantly cause trouble). Videos of such groups doing dumb stuff (with misguiding titles) became the primary source of Anti-PLA misinformation at some point, both domestically and internationally (especially among Falun members). The further spread actual 07 based helmets and flaks surely wouldn't help

It's really interesting how ever since the Type-07 series of infantry gear got replaced by newer Type-21s, they started popping up in the most random places worldwide. First in Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia etc.), then within elite units in Central Asia, MENA, South America, and now even in Central America (America's backyard), which demonstrates both the sheer scale in which such equipment were produced and just how the PLA gets rid of its surplus shit
That is interesting. Camo pattern can be thought of as government uniforms. Yes it can be sold abroad as general goods, but it still carries government reputation even if not by design.Never thought it from this perspective. A compact, light-weight target designator used for designating targets for air support.
Never seen this plate carrier in my life.

That helmet is from Team Wendy.Just noticed this.
That gear (helmet, plate carrier) looks the same as the ones in these set of pictures

They might even be the same unit for all we know (some of them are even wearing their plate carriers at the right height!)... though I must say this particular plate carrier and helmet is definitely looking much much more capable than what is currently being used.
If this represents a new standardized helmet and plate carrier, then this would be quite an improvement.
In particular, the helmet offers a mounting point that actually looks appropriate for a proper set of NODs.
An idea what foreign unit they are training with there?
