I think these Air Force servicemen are wearing armor inserts.
It has side plates?
I don't think so... (well I don't see any side plates, nor do I see any locations to insert side plates.)
Wouldn't side plates restrict your movement a lot?

I'm not sure, but it doesn't appear to.
They seems to be wearing PLA issued uniform instead of PAP uniform. Also they're wearing their vest very low.
Par for the course for air base security.

1-Muzzle flash is almost gone when using suppressor.
2-The crack for the enemy isn't quite directional ,when you hear it sounds almost omnidirectional. So a suppressor makes it harder to figure out where you are firing from.
