Well, I looked up a lot of the past, but I still didn't notice it.
Would images of police and SWAT warrant their own subforum? They're not exactly army. Similarly, isn't the PAP more of a gendarmerie?
AFAIK provinces fund their own police so they tend to have better gear. But goddamn I wish the PLA would step up their game.
Anyway, patches show that these dudes are from Zhejiang police college. (and I guess the camo in the second picture sort of confirms that)

The PLA soldiers, at least the ones I have seen on military videos social media seems malnourished to me and these guys not only looked to have better gears but also looked better fed and better built.

Really, they don't to me, and there's also quite a lot of videos and the likes of their cafeteria and so on, and well, they definitely aren't NOT being fed appropiately.
I didn't mean to opine that PLA soldiers are weak, scrawny etc...I was just taken aback on how those SWAT Chinese personnel looked intimidating and prepared in comparison to what I have anecdotally seen on the videos that CCTV published on social media and TV. I would love to see PLA troops looking more like those SWAT folks but it's more than understandable that those guys would look differently because they're SPECIALISTS and are selected from some of the best candidates?
I dunno, I feel like PLA's tanks, armoured vehicles etc. is more initimidating than geared up SWAT personel.
Most likely the swat and PAP train their bodies way more than the normal soldier.
I would say this is the case.
Most of the PLA soldiers are still kids below 20 when they enter the service. Although this is changing as PLA is getting more and more colleage students/graduates.
The swat teams, on the other hand, usually pick their candidates from the best performants of the current PLA/PAP soldiers (or police officers). These candidates are at least a few years into their service time already. They are physically and mentally more mature.
