Anyone know if the new helmet we saw in the 2019 parade is UHMWPE or aramid? If it's still aramid, well, that's still quite behind since the US has had UHMWPE that can withstand rifle hits for 2 generations now (ECH, then IHPS, even a gen 2 IHPS which can supposedly stop even AP rifle rounds without additional ceramic appliqué armour worn on top.) Am interested in info on the plate composition too, is it just ceramic? (IIRC ESAPI plates are ceramic backed with UHMWPE).
Plus how is the force-wide rollout of the new kit (helmet, armour, QBZ-191 etc) going? Wasn't it supposed to be complete by now? In recent vids they still seem to be mostly using the legacy helmets and gear.
May be wrong, but I thought I heard within a few years when we first saw it.When was it expected to be complete by now?
This doesn't kook like a good idea tbh. It's not really necessary if you already have mags on your LBV. Also those mags may have a good chance to get caught on something and fall out.
Seems more like for emergencies when you really REALLY need a mag but your rigs all empty. The little zipper will keep the mags from falling out when not in use. But yeah overall it does seem like overkill. This doesn't kook like a good idea tbh. It's not really necessary if you already have mags on your LBV. I wouldn’t call it overkill. I would say it is more like theory vs practicality. Is it useful in theory? Maybe since it would allow the user to access a new magazine even if their carrier or vest has no ammo left. Is it actually practical? Nope. The user has to bend their arm in a weird angle, thereby making the reloading relatively time consuming and awkward. Plus, the magazine might fall out.Seems more like for emergencies when you really REALLY need a mag but your rigs all empty. The little zipper will keep the mags from falling out when not in use. I'm gonna be honest, I always thought it was just a simple way to keep the magazines held in a vertical position so it can save room for other stuff in the pack or to help make it flatter.I wouldn’t call it overkill. In my opinion, they should focus more on battle belts instead.
