India' defense manufacturing sector has very limited capability. It can make components of arms and some weapons at home, but most of its military equipment is imported and assembled in India. Its locally produced weapons are mostly modeled on arms from other countries. That being said, there are often hidden dangers when the arms come into actual use.

Some military equipment is quite old and outdated but still in service. These show that India's overall military capacity is worrisome, Song Zhongping, a Chinese military expert, told the Global Times.

What's startling is GlobalTimes taunting India and forcing attention of its defense planners to these issues. I wouldn't do that if I were an adversary. Has GT become so bold and eh...a bit 'Conceited' ?

Not sure a country which still operates substantial number of J-7s and J-8s is in a position to be throwing shade on other countries' outdated kit.

China indeed has a technology superiority. As for the 3rd gens, they are in the process of either replacing with next generation aircrafts or is there because of its high performance-to-value.

But India is actively moving to Atlantic sphere. It's a threat to China in the long term. One can't hope your adversary remain incompetent and build a strategy on top of it. GlobalTimes need to understand subtlety.

From a purely technical standpoint I don't think that the situation is comparable. As of 2019 India is still using the Mig-21 Bison as a frontline aircraft whereas the J-7s and J-8s have been relegated to second line and/or surveillance duty for quite some time. The only recent use of the J-7 for frontline duty was a pair of J-7s spotted in the Taiwanese ADIZ, but that was only one instance out of several thousand incursions involving J-16/J-10/J-11/Su-30 and we are not even sure if they are drones.
